New YUTONG Electric Buses for SEGRO Gateway Shuttle

7 months ago Wed 27th Mar 2024

CT4N has launched two new electric buses built by Yutong for deployment on the SEGRO shuttle service located at SEGRO Logistics Park East Midlands Gateway.

The Gateway Shuttle service operates across the 700-acre development every 10 minutes between 05:00 and 23:00 7-days a week and provides onward connections to thousands of employees every day who travel to SEGRO via the frequent Skylink services which operate towards Nottingham, Derby and Leicester.

The new Yutong Buses deliver an improved mileage range, wooden effect flooring, double glazed windows, extra leg room between seats, mobile phone charge sockets and moquette seating which incorporates the SEGRO corporate branding.

The new buses are also zero emission, as they have no combustion engines on-board, including the heaters. Charging of the vehicles takes place overnight using the on-site charger located at SEGRO Logistics Park.

Our continued partnership with SEGRO grows from strength to strength. Not only have we taken delivery of two new Yutong Buses supplied via Pelican & Mistral, but we have also extended our working relationship with SEGRO for the next five years, which was a key factor in our commitment to these new buses for the Gateway Shuttle service. The team at CT4N have worked closely with SEGRO, Petersen Associates and ITP to deliver these buses and we look forward to the next five years as the final developments of the site begin to take shape” – Nigel Eggleton, Managing Director, CT4N

As part of our responsible SEGRO commitment to Champion low-carbon growth and our net-zero journey, we are working hard to find ways of removing or significantly reducing the carbon emissions associated with our operations. At SEGRO Logistics Park East Midlands Gateway we are already enabling more freight to be transported by rail, we have invested in solar energy generation, and we have incorporated electric vehicle charging infrastructure for our customers. The extension of the contract with CT4N and their subsequent investment in the two new state-of-the-art electric buses is the latest example of our approach and provides a much valued, sustainable transport service for the thousands of people who work at the development" - Kate Bedson, Senior Director, National Markets, SEGRO

Ian Downie, Head of Yutong UK explained "In August last year we successfully bid for this vehicle supply contract. To have delivered such a customer centric vehicle in less than 7 months is a testament to the collaborative working betweenCT4N, Pelican, Mistral and all our UK suppliers.  The attention to detail included a new bespoke seat moquette that accentuates the warm, clean lines within the vehicle interior. We have been delighted to work with Nigel and the CT4N team in bringing these fantastic vehicles in service on the SEGRO Logistics Park"
