Free Travel for 16-18 Year Olds

Today Thu 30th Jul 2026

During August, all 16-18 year olds can travel free on all CT4N bus services, thanks to funding provided by East Midlands Mayor Claire Ward.

This is in addition to the UK Government’s Great British Summer Savings Scheme, when children aged 5–15 can travel for FREE also.

Between Saturday 1st August and Monday 31st August 2026, the Mayor is funding free bus travel for anyone aged 16, 17 or 18 to get out and about this summer either for leisure, jobs or interviews.

Who can travel for free?

Anyone aged 16, 17 or 18

Will I have to prove my age?

Yes, as part of the scheme requirements, proof of age will be required, which can be in the form of a provisional or full UK driving licence, a passport or any other valid ID with a picture that proves your identity and age.

When boarding the bus, simply show your identification and ask for a '16-18 ticket' which is valid for the journey you are undertaking.

What if I don't have any identification?

Then we are sorry, but you will have to pay for the journey you are undertaking, those are the rules of the scheme
